I basically cook as close to the burner as possible on max heat. Within about 2" anyway. I will usually cook 1-1.5 min per side. And flip 4 times if its a medium thickish cut. You will notice that when the steak starts to sizzle the fat hits the burner and starts to burn as well. That's your "these knobs go to 11" moment. Be careful you don't burn it.
If its an extra thick cut, I will turn the burner down and flip an extra ~2 times.
I don't often let it rest and will usually just eat it right out of the skillet fajita style. You can though especially if its a thicker cut and you want to give the center more time to cook. Sometimes I will put it on the stove and throw a few fried eggs in the skillet too.
I don't get great results with this technique and thinner cuts. Usually can't get the outside where I want it without overcooking the inside.
