This makes it difficult to exercise all the quads fully with squatting as the hip joint bending decreases the distance for the rectus femoris muscle. This can lead to knee issues (or inversely, exercising it correctly can fix knee problems).

Leaning back (with arms in front for balance) when squatting can help, as can reverse nordics.
