“The Emperor’s New Clothes” is transparently a story about the hard-wired inability some of us have to avoid perceiving and speaking the truth of a situation. For all its downsides – social awkwardness, anyone? – it’s a neurocognitive superpower. And like all such superpowers, we must only use it for good.
