130 million American adults—more than half of adults between the ages of 16 and 74—now read at below a 6th grade level. 40 percent of American students cannot read at even a basic level for learning. These rates are the worst they’ve been since the 70s, and the decline is showing no signs of stopping. It’s even worse in math. Funding has been largely inadequate, & even when it hasn’t, potential recipients have been stuck on waitlists or otherwise wrapped up in bureaucratic red tape.
