Western philosophy was going nowhere in Medieval Europe. It is a good thing that the Medieval Islamic cultures were our relatively technologically advanced neighbors.
And Europeans did not invent paper. Taoist monks did. The Medieval Muslims just adopted it, and then late Medieval Europeans discovered it as johnny-come-latelies.
Civilizations rise and fall. Ours will inevitably fall for one reason or another.
The next great civilization might be South American.
