In the UK certainly, all the politicians want education to be the magic that makes society fair - and they put pressure on schools and teachers to do this, even thought the evidence clearly shows that what makes society fair is, you know, society being fair. And none of them want to vote for that in case their rich sponsors stop sponsoring them so they don't get voted in next time. A teacher's job is to know all that and do it anyway.
