A brief discussion on why I am grafting in the forest. I show off some very large and mature pawpaw trees that have very minimal fruit production. The new bark grafted trees should cross pollinate the larger trees in the next few years. Once fruit production increases, more seeds drop from the tree, which further increases genetic diversity and fruit production decades into the future. You can technically just plant seeds to increase fruit production, but grafting speeds up the process by many years. Pawpaw seedlings can take 3-7yrs before flowering and pollinating.
