salvaged from a cabinet,
a pink party hat,
from his sisters 1st birthday,
five years ago.

candle flickers
familiar song sung by family
fills the room
as ice cream cake slowly melts.

four years old
eyes wide with joy and awe
a day lived full.
unafraid.

Haiku:

full of joy and awe
unafraid.

written for my son who recently turned four. he lives fearlessly.
