Will mask-wearing prevent transmission to some extend if you are sick? Sure, it might catch some droplets from sneezes or coughs. But, they do absolutely nothing to protect the wearer, yet all of society latched onto these masks like supernatural talismans. We could have done so, so, so much more to stop viral transmission and contain the epidemic, but instead we focused on the simplest, cheapest, most useless measures to make ourselves "feel good" whilst not really doing anything at all.
