The problem with that is with carbs and sugar you are going to yo-yo your metabolism, not to mention setting yourself up for insulin resistance. If anything he should be getting his energy from fat, not sugar. It's widely misunderstood that people think you get fat from eating fat but it's very good for you. A keto diet high in fat and protein along with green veg is the way to go. Also everyone thinks that eating tons of fruit is healthy when most of it is high glycemic index stuff. We mainly eat berries, but stay away from bananas for example, it's like the candy bar of fruit. Another option is to start carnivore and reset your entire system. That's what I did at first and now I'm keto. Never felt better, sure I have a cheat day here and there (especially over Christmas) but we don't even have bread in the house at all. If we do have bread my wife makes something with almond flour. Really our food guides and most nutrition information is totally wrong and unhealthy. Everything is full of high fructose corn syrup, which is why most people are pre-diabetic. Sugar also essentially disables your immune system for hours after consumption. My motto is if it didn't exist 100 years ago, you probably shouldn't eat it. One more thing, stay away from seed oils, coconut, lard, tallow and olive or avocado oils are the way to go.
