Idle Thought: Again, journalists clearly love "cop speak" as much as law enforcement does.

If you quote directly, then "neutralized" is fine. Otherwise, just putting quote marks around the word should get you a wrist slap from an editor.

Granted, the latest infraction I've seen this morning involved a publication that doesn't deal with a lot of crime stories, so the write may have thought it cool getting to use the word. 😏
