#US / “Antisemitic Attitudes” in the USA in 2024, according to the ADL
From the 1960s until 2014, there was a decline in #antisemitism in the US, according to the index of the #ADL which examines respondents' agreement with a set of antisemitic statements.
In 2014, about 9% of respondents agreed with 6 or more antisemitic statements, in 2015 the number rose to 10% and in 2019 to 11%. In 2022 there was a significant jump to 20% and in 2024 the number is already close to 24%.
2014 is of note here. Between 2,125 and 2,310 Gazans were killed during the conflict while between 10,626 and 10,895 were wounded (including 3,374 children, of whom over 1,000 were left permanently disabled). Some findings:
1. Over 40% of US citizens think that Israelis intend to cause maximal suffering to the Palestinians (impression shared with Israeli Palestinians, see Mohamed Barakeh’s comment https://kolektiva.social/@oatmeal/112026724167982937)
2. A third of US citizens think Israeli operatives are manipulating US national policy
3. Younger generations are much more comfortable being friends with Hamas supporter
