I tried a hood for a while. Indeed, it kills hearing (your ears are inside) and peripheral vision. And it has a much lower fit factor. In fact, I would wear a 3M Aura inside.
With the full face mask your ears are outside, so you can still hear well, and the impact to peripheral vision is less. You mostly end up with a blind spot downwards.
This combination has an APF of 500 (if it fits you well).
