Specifically, when I was generating this I noticed that in many cases the model REALLY wanted to form the crystal but couldn't overcome the bias towards not having an object in the forehead of the character. I think this approach would probably overcome that, especially if combined with another element/LoRA that wants to produce something there.
I haven't actually implemented this yet though, so the idea is experimental. The hard part will be making it so it doesn't add in a heavy style bias.
