Valued at approximately US$172 million, the catamaran is set to become Austal’s largest build to date. It will incorporate a multi-fuel, combined cycle propulsion system with both gas and steam turbines, giving it the flexibility to operate on a variety of fuels, including hydrogen. \n\nWith capacity for up to 1,500 passengers and 400 vehicles, the high-speed ROPAX catamaran will be built in Austal’s Philippines shipyard, using green aluminum. Construction is planned to start in early 2026, and the vessel is expected to be delivered in mid-2028. This collaboration involves input from technology providers to finalize main equipment selection and design a system that repurposes engine exhaust for propulsion, ultimately lowering emissions.
