Sounds about like the Indonesia Rupiah, although they do have much larger denominations. Their largest denomination, 100,000 idr is equivalent to $6.66 USD. They also observe the practice of returning small change, less than 500 Rupiah, in pieces of candy.
I recently read that Indonesia is in the process of creating a national crypto currency exchange. Bappebti plans to roll out the exchange sometime this month. Some reports say that this will be the ONLY exchange permitted to operate in Indonesia which, I'm sure, would be much more inefficient than exchanges that currently operate in the country. I'm hoping this is just a poor translation because I've been here for the past couple months orange-pilling my wife's family and community, and they would much prefer to use the new lightning transfers option to Binance since many of the transactions would be smaller than on-chain network fees. Perhaps your team could reach out to Ridwan Kamil or Samson Mow to discuss the future of Bitcoin in Indonesia?
