A big open field worked well in Zelda 1, limitations of the NES notwithstanding: but you heard that overworld theme the entire time. Same thing with LttP overworld/Dark World, OoT/MM, and nearly every single other Zelda title
Some people like to cite "oh it's minimalism" in a franchise which leaned heavily upon motifs and cohesive music throughout its history as if it was for the better
Maybe if it was baby's first Zelda game, they might have no frame of reference, but it wasn't a good decision and one I hope is rectified in Tears
