I remember when I was working for S1 Corporation (Security First Technologies) 23 years ago having to fly out to Austin and Cincinnati to perform on-site risk assessments of potential vendors and that was back in 2000!
Can’t afford to do it yourself? Then at the very least subscribe to BitSight or Security Risk Scorecard.
