During a city council meeting yesterday, council candidate Chris Olson brought up the Trump fan that tried to drive into protesters a few weeks ago at a protest on campus at PSU and shared his traumatic experience. In response, mayor Ted Wheeler, who is also police commissioner, said that people shouldn’t "whine, complain and cry when there are consequences.”
I posted about this live as it was happening and had he been successful he would’ve driven thru the line of cops as well. This same man who attempted to kill people was detained and held on a mental health hold and released shortly after with no consequences. He has since posted at least 3 more death threats against activists on his instagram, including threatening to stab people and that he was making explosives to use on protesters.
A few years ago, Wheeler was encouraging vigilantism against protesters and said he wanted to “unmask” them and “make them hurt a little.”
Not one year after those comments were made, the Normandale shooting happened where someone open fired and killed one person and shot 6 others at a protest. Following the Normandale shooting Wheeler stated that he did not regret what he said.
