This is intriguing because the film industry postdates the Spanish colonial era in the #Philippines 🇵🇭. And when the first movie houses were erected in the 1920s (like Escolta’s art deco Capitol Theater), the Americans and their fledgling Hollywood industry were already there. You would think that English terms like “movie” or “film” would become the loanwords (like “nars” from “nurse” or “dyip” from “jeep”), but here we are with “pelikula” and “sine”.
