I remember a beautiful moment during an undergrad biology lecture. Dr Paul Bailey was the chap explaining a few things about ecology, but then omitted to explain one particular detail that seemed rather essential.
Upon enquiry he replied, "we don't now".
At first this seemed incredulous. Why give a lecture about a topic that you're not fully across? What he was trying to explain is that science doesn't know the answer. Yet.
"We don't know" is a thing of beauty.
