When I activated a silent.link eSIM on a Pixel 4 running GrapheneOS, I found out that you need to enable Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) to install the eSIM. That is in addition to installing the Google Play Services. Once you have the eSIM working, you can uninstall Google Play Services.
