Last time he was up there (for the Aurora Borealis) he took a bunch of photos with his iPhone. He mused that there was probably a way for him to get better photos with some gear aimed at "real" astrophotography but he didn't have time to look into what it all would entail

So here I am starting from scratch trying to sort it out for him. I think the guides you pointed to are a good place to start. I will try not to let myself feel overwhelmed this time. Ty for indulging me
