During the persecution of Christians by Emperor Diocletian, Bishop Irineu of Sirmium fearlessly defended his faith. He was arrested and brought before the Roman governor, who demanded he renounce Christ. Irineu, however, remained steadfast, proclaiming his belief in Jesus. He endured torture, including being stretched on a rack and having his flesh torn. Despite the excruciating pain, he refused to yield. Finally, he was beheaded for his unwavering commitment to the Gospel.
