Depends on the value system you associate. If you have a value system that says having a family, saving your money to give to them, building a community, and making the world overall a better place will get you into heaven, it seems like it's _deflationary_ (or at least low time preference): forgoing wasted consumption today in exchange for eternal happiness.
Reminds me of this horrific approach to life.
