I think the team spent a lot of time looking at the microcosm, ocean depths, and special fungi, and imagined a whole lot of strangeness.
The story it tells is well thought out, has many adult themes like betrayal and death. Sex is present, if fade-to-black.
Emotions are well represented.
All this show needs is a better budget, and I think a Season 2 was greenlit.
