As someone who was once a long-time activist I remember when #RT had a big campaign in support of #Occupy Wall Street, it had perhaps more coverage of Occupy than any other media, and RT even launched its Occupy App. Big Occupy- and Occupy adjacent figures like Chris Hedges and Tangerine Bolen were interviewed. By 2015 RT began supporting Trump and Alt-Right. Of course Russia never cared about ideologies but it probably wanted to help destabilize the U.S. however it could.
