Looking at your recent video detailing your observations on Japanese streets, I’m inclined to agree. I lived in Japan (Osaka, Nagoya, Yokohama, Tokyo) for 2 decades and I’ve only seen the kind of level of detail when it comes to consideration for pedestrian traffic flow in the bigger APAC and European places where traffic outside of cars seems to get not only considered, but in many cases prioritized.
The Dutch went through some kind of hell in the 70s and 80s and somehow freed their minds from thinking the automobile was a magic bullet to solve everything. I really wish North American civil construction lawmakers would take mandatory retrainings in Netherlands, Japan, hell even Carmel, Indiana, and rewrite codes.
I also long for paths and slow streets made of brick and sandstone– We used to have that here too!
