I launched mg (an editor as minimal as vi but with Emacs keybindings) inside of an Emacs term-mode buffer (because I haven't set up $EDITOR to use emacsclient and I had to run visudo) and I have my term-mode key bindings changed such that many keys aren't actually sent to the underlying terminal...
So this is what I had to do to tell mg to save the file and quit. :blobcat-extremejoy:
