Uneris 饕餮姐姐 (npub1zf4…3zta) It's a post about how the obsession within fantasy to create soulless commercial books built for easy and comfortable consumption is killing the literary potential of it, and how this can most easily be found in the obsession with "magic-systems," which exist purely to massage the wrinkles in the brains of soy guys rather than for any artistic purpose. This is further encapsulated in the self-referential nature of commercial art. Fantasy books aren't written because the authors have something deep in their heart that could be best expressed in fantasy, they write fantasy books as their own end. They're just like "omg dragons are cool11!!!" People calling D&D "Tolkienesque," is a good example of this. D&D has absolutely nothing to do with Tolkien in any way but it has swords and short guys so the average person is incapable of seeing the spiritual difference between the two.
Ofc if this was happening only in fantasy it would suck, but fantasy is just an egregious microcosm of a larger shift towards self-referential slop. The exact same thing is happening in literature when you go to a bookstore and see books labeled with silly tropes like "enemies to lovers." Art is being reduced to it's mechanical trappings rather than the beauty that those trappings create.
