I see "whiteness" as an artificial construct which needs to be overcome from within, torn down, replaced with something better. Our ancestors stripped us of our own cultural heritage while they were doing something much worse to others -- while the latter must be addressed with justice, the former should also be rectified.
Becoming "not white anymore" doesn't mean appropriating some other culture, it means unpicking the net our ancestors trapped themselves and their descendants in, and replacing the homogenous, de-racialized monoculture that is "white" with something else, something better. That might mean reconnecting with an ancestral identity (most "white" people have several from which to choose), or it might mean constructing something new from whole cloth.
