I hate it when people say "Christmas time is about helping others and being kind", when that's the way it should be all the time, not just during one month of the year. I think this sentiment is toxic, because it causes people to only believe that mutual aid and helping the poor is something to be relegated for special occasions, and influences them to justify not helping people for the rest of the year.
