I remember when I started painting I began to feel a sense of peace in my life. I guess it’s because I’ve always wanted to challenge myself. Making art isn’t always easy. It’s a challenge to give shape and color to what I’m thinking about, and it’s a challenge to create the artwork I want to create.
Painting is the best way to express my feelings, release situations that have been bothering me and calm myself when times are rough. All I have to do is keep my hands busy; it calms my mind and lets everything else go.
The more I create, the more my thoughts and feelings change, and the world around me changes, and I’m able to forget my worries and just enjoy the process.
This has the same effect on me as meditation. It helps me to have a more positive attitude and a different way of looking at the world.
Sometimes I look back at a painting and I’m amazed at how it can make me feel things I didn’t even know I was feeling: happiness, love, pride, sadness, nostalgia, fear, and peace.
When I paint I don’t have to follow any rules and I can just work without a plan.
Art rewards me and lets me see things differently. If I paint a landscape I discover different ways of seeing a landscape.
Anyone can be an artist, and the joy is universal. Art helps my escape. Art isn’t always happy, but it’s often a good diversion from problems, stress, and daily life. Art is vital for me. And for you.
Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!
