Since I've been describing how 3D graphics work...
It is my understanding that the main thing which makes something look "CG" is that when you have these large teams perfecting every pixel onscreen, they can loose track of what "perfect" looks like & end up overdoing things. Especially when their bosses & clients join them in bike-shedding, reportedly there's a lot of creative mismanagement.
Lighting used to look a little off due to limited computing.
