This is so interesting. About childhood mental development.

I watched this guy's video essay analyzing the cinematography of the recent horror movie Longlegs,[0] and about halfway through he went into detail about a childhood obsession he developed, with a scary face he saw on the Internet, and how that made him relate to the movie.

He later made a video purely about that experience,[1] which I'm watching now... Apparently this let him finally process that childhood trauma. This dude sounds like he must be in his 20s at least.

The image that scared the hell out of him and caused night terrors and weight loss due to severe anxiety is really quite a mundane (IMO) "ghost" face from an old Asian horror movie.

I've had things I was scared of as a kid too, but I don't remember ever having such an obsession or trauma. Yet a lot of people in the comments empathize with him, indicating that this is a common phenomenon.

If a single random image on a computer screen can scar a child for an entire year and lead to severe mental health issues, imagine how fragile our minds must be to many other influences, especially in childhood.
