So I have a "smart power outlet" monitoring the power draw by my NAS.
It sends metrics over MQTT, among them are instantenous power draw, as well as a counter that shows cumulative energy used since start (in Watt-minutes because fuck standard units).
The energy counter behaves somewhat erratically:
- it's sent over MQTT whenever the power outlet feels like it - sometimes twice within a second, other times 20 seconds apart
- but it updates only roughly once a minute
