So I can report that, by 3 a.m., shoes on the staircase were filled with baggies containing sweet potato cookies shaped like a bishop's crook, a bishop's mitre, and 3 balls to represent the dowry St. Nicholas gave for those poor girls in the legend.
Maybe, with any luck, St. Nicholas's helper can get a nap today. Right now, he's drinking coffee.
