If you are looking at the same model from different generations, it doesn't make sense that it would be slower. But I suspect that you are looking at different models. All generations have cheap CPUs and high-performance CPUs. A cheap CPU from a recent generation will be slower than an old high-performance CPU. Models numbered 500 or less are cheap CPUs. Above 500 are high-performance. The 900s are the most powerful.
