It is more than possible Bill was head hunted, as clearly there would have been many possibilities open to him. But he has chosen to step away from politics ,per se, and choose a different arena.

A chancellor needs to have excellent negotiation skills, enormous network of contacts, good public address manner, confidence, diplomacy, knowledge and experience,plus the appropriate empathy and ability to relate to people at all levels. Bill Shorten easily fulfils all those requirements.

So, whether head hunted or selected it seems University of Canberra has found a first class person for a difficult job.
