Unicode character encoding in SMS is very innefective, you want to stick to 7-bit ASCII there if possible. You will end up with 16 bits per character and at certain lemgth multiple SMS with extra PDU headers if at least one character of whole message is outside 7-bit ASCII, which receiver phone then concatenates back together.
