Sadly Russia has zero incentive to negotiate or agree to a truce right now. A pause would just lead to the west rearming and training more Ukrainian soldiers for more proxy war. In addition Stoltenberg already stated they'll add whatever remains of the Ukraine to NATO.
Under these circumstances the logical course of action for Russia is pushing their advantage and move the boundaries as far west as they can. Even if that means taking over most/all of the Ukraine. I'm not saying I approve/disapprove, but this is the logic of the situation.
