It’s easy to forget what an achievement even getting that far is - a surprising number of people say something along the lines of “I’ve always thought I had a book in me”, and some might even write a few pages, but far less actually get all the way through a first draft, let alone the editing stages. The creative writing process is different to “everyday” writing and not everyone gets that until they try.
I remember telling my friend my first book had been accepted by a small publisher, and she immediately said, who is it, my husband’s writing a book.
(The tone being, oh if *you* can write something publishable, anyone can; she was and is, unfortunately, a little bit like that with other people’s successes)
I’m currently writing my tenth book and he’s yet to finish one. Writing a full-length story is just harder than people think it is. Celebrating the achievement is worthwhile.
