I used to be that person who liked building things up, tweaking and configuring every setting, every feature, and every possible choice. And while I do not want to give up the option, I also do not want a system where that is a requirement, after a fresh installation.
My current Linux distro just works, right after install, and I can leave it "as is". And over time, I still have the option to change things, but I do not have the need or pressure to do so. Nor do I need to waste time fulfilling the bare minimum basics.
Every "old school" Linux user loses their shit when you say, you want the Windows experience. But the reality is, Windows is popular because of that experience. Microsoft, however, took advantage of their position and started to add a lot of crap few people wanted or needed. The 1st operating system that can give that experience, while also not giving all the nonsense, can be successful.
It is why I recommend, Ultramarine Linux (Kde Plasma edition). It gives that Windows-like experience. I can truly make it my own, but I also start with a system I can use right away.
