This was once told to me by a friend of a friend... :ablobcool:
Be careful of people who try to stir up fear in you because they want to sell you some product. Privacy advocates, anonymity advocates, and people who tell you that every government is looking for you, they all want to sell you something. They tell half-truths and draw monsters crawling around your router because they are partners with the same people who created the problem. Use free services, use Tor, use the Deep Web and the Dark Web. They will tell you that they are full of crooks, but I assure you that they are less and less dangerous than those who sell "solutions." Use Open Source apps and services, beware of "ultra-private" browsers that are not really private, there is no such thing as absolute privacy and nothing will make you truly invisible to the system or the government. Right now there are dozens of police and intelligence agents making fun of you and me. It is more likely that right now the "dark side" is more full of cops messing with each other than digital thieves. Do you want to go unnoticed? Make yourself visible, use your real name and post stupid things and memes, discuss nonsense and with silent accounts read and observe everything without interacting with anything or anyone. The more you try to hide, the more you attract attention and the more suspicious you become to curious eyes, both good and bad.
On any street, everyone looks at the kids fighting on the corner and the village idiot laughing like crazy and no one notices the beggar sleeping on the sidewalk or the technician up on the pole and the waste recycler. So, become one of those that no one looks at on one side while on the other you are the drunk uncle at the party.
