I had a surprise baby in my late 30s. She has special needs, and we had the resources for me to quit my real job, launch a company for contracts, and stay home. But my income was at best, maybe 20% of previous.
Twenty years later, and I have still published, but have been out of the corporate loop for so long there's no way I'd make c-suite, my ss numbers are stupid low, and if I hadn't had an attorney draw up all the details of how assets would be shared in case of separation (ie. mine all mine), I would be absolutely screwed if Beloved decided to take up with a chippy.
Most women are not starting from that privilege.
