imo one of the most underrated harms to western journalism in the last ~30yrs has been the insistence on hiring comfortable, professional-class dweebs who literally think about nothing. they have no thoughts, just empty heads, **especially** at the very highest levels. the thing that originally attracted me to journalism was that it was a space for misfits, weirdos, and iconoclasts, and I feel like that hasn’t been true for awhile.
