I've been really struggling to learn the lap steel. Whenever I go dig up self taught resources I tend to bounce off of it for long periods of time. I sat down tonight to figure out what exactly I wanted to do with the thing and realized I just want to use it for rhythm/comping. Once I realized that, I knew that there was nothing stopping me from identifying triads on my own and playing along to I-IV-V songs.
Huge breakthrough for me. Self discovery is the way I learn best.
