At the same time Google could easily implement their RCS implementation in their Google Chat app in the Apple App Store as they have done this in android but they refused to deploy Google RCS to their Google Chat iOS app.
If signal, WhatsApp etc can all implement a chat protocol in an iOS app so could Google. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
