I also point to the human nature factor by looking at religion. Education does not appear to discourage Christianity and I point to the Branch Dividians, Jim Jones and other cults that many well educated persons were caught up in.
Even look at Ginny Thomas, SCOTUS Clarence Thomas's wife. She's an attorney Creighton JD) got caught up in a cult (Lifespring) and to save her Law license underwent deprogramming!
