This wasn't a transplant, per se. It's possible an embryo has its own mechanism for this. I don't recall them mentioning immunosuppressants, but this was also a long time ago in an article in a science journal I can't remember, so I can't speculate if they were used/needed or not. The test was about if the fetus would develop, and they were primarily interested in the first trimester, as that's the most critical period of development. I found the article interesting at the time.
